Arya Herrera

1st Photo: Before going to rehearsals today, I got the go signal from my director and colored my hair red. I’m kinda liking it because it makes me feel like a superhero. Hahaha!

2nd Photo: That is me and the boyfriend on our way to rehearsals. Still cant believe I have a boyfriend again. After about 2 and a half years, I think. I’m glad it took me this long.  God’s timing is always impeccable. Unexpected, yet impeccable. And because of waiting, we are happy, ready, and totally free. :)

3rd photo: A shot from rehearsals today. Out first full run and I must say, my castmates are pretty fricking awesome. Everyday, I’m inspired to be better because of them. They are so generous and selfless. I learn so much everyday and I’m so blessed to be acting with such wonderful people.

4th photo: That is an online poster I designed for our workshop culmination play. Rep Fringe, Repertory’s Master Class Workshop, will be doing an adaptation of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible. All the details are up there, so if you’d like to watch, just hit me up! :)

Cheers to the coming days! It will be bloody and blessed.

Three beautiful words
Pulsing through my whole body
Means that I’ve won you. :)

Let this precise moment in history be marked as the time when taking chances is definitely worth it.

As an unknown author said, “Take risks; if you win, you will be happy. If you lose, you will be wise.”

Well, if that’s the case, Mr. Unkown Author,

I won.

And I sure am damn happy about it.

Today, instead of having our usual workshop day at CSA, we were asked to watch the reading of Castrato, a straight play that told the story of a pastor and father of two boys who was abusive and committed suicide by slitting his wrists. The two brothers left behind separated and met 12 years after, both leading different lives. The older one became a successful businessman who was a follower of a reverend of St. Andrews church , and the younger one, a minister. Their meeting becomes not only a confrontation of their past but also touches on morality, the stands of the church, homosexuality, and more.
The reading lasted about two hours. There was no set, no visuals, no stage. There in the middle of the audience were the four characters in their costumes, a music stand to put their scripts on, and nothing else.
The point of the whole thing was to challenge the issue of our generation today being too dependent on visual cues and entertainment that we miss the words and what they can ignite in the mind altogether. People today lack the capacity to listen for a long period of time because they get bored easily without any sort of visual entertainment.
So the people of Trumpets came up with this solution. To bring the people back to the “word.” To listen and ignite the imagination.
To be honest, I had a difficult time at first just listening without any set and whatnot; but with four wonderful actors and an amazing play, I was immediately hooked after a few minutes and was overwhelmed by the beauty of the entire concept by the second act.
In the end, people just really need to listen.
